University has research expertise in Satellite Communications, Space Engineering, Space
Technology, Solar and Space Physics, Space Weather, Space Situational Awareness,
Astronomical Instrumentation, Earth Observation, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Space
Physiology, and Space Law and Policy.
The University works with the UK Space Agency (UKSA) and a range of partners on driving future innovation in the North East and beyond. In addition to strong involvement in mission, CubeSats and instrument design, Northumbria University staff also play key roles on national and international space-related committees, including ESA’s Space Science Advisory Committee (SSAC), ESA’s Planetary Sciences and Exploration Working Group, and UKSA’s Space Programme Advisory Committee (SPAC). Northumbria’s world leading space experts work with industry partners on collaborative research, technology development and in- demand skills provision.
